As one of the world’s lowest cost iron ore producers, Fortescue is now shipping at an annual rate of over 190 million tonnes with more than 2 billion tonnes of iron ore delivered to our customers since 2008.
Through our renewable energy projects and mining technology developments, we are rapidly diversifying our business to become an integrated, global green energy and metals company.
Key to this transition is our industry leading target to achieve real zero for Scope 1 and 2 terrestrial emissions across our iron ore operations by 2030 and net zero Scope 3 emissions by 2040. For our size and scale, there is no other heavy industry company in the world that is taking the action we are to eliminate emissions.
Our iron ore operations include three hematite mining hubs in the Pilbara and our Iron Bridge magnetite mine. Our three mining hubs in the Pilbara, Western Australia, are connected by 760 kilometres of rail to Herb Elliott Port and the Judith Street Harbour towage infrastructure in Port Hedland.
Our iron ore value chain extends to our innovative tug fleet and eight purpose-built, 260,000 tonne capacity Fortescue Ore Carriers, which have been designed to complement the efficiency of our port and maximise the safety and productivity of Fortescue’s operations.
From the outset, Fortescue has been at the forefront of innovation in the mining industry. The Fortescue Hive, our integrated operations centre in Perth, brings together our entire value chain to deliver enhanced safety, productivity, efficiency and commercial benefits, and it will strengthen our future use of technology, including artificial intelligence and robotics.
As a low-cost supplier of seaborne iron ore to China, Fortescue maintains strong relationships with all our Chinese stakeholders, underpinned by a multifaceted approach spanning our key business pillars of iron ore supply, procurement, financing, investment and social engagement. Additionally, we have expanded into other markets including Japan and South Korea.
As a values-based business that celebrates diversity and inclusiveness, we are empowering thriving communities globally and delivering positive social and economic benefits through training, employment and business development opportunities, including for our First Nations employees and partners. By empowering our people and communities, we will continue to challenge the status quo to sustain operational excellence, achieve our stretch targets, drive future success and deliver strong returns to our shareholders.
In our short history, Fortescue has accomplished what was judged as impossible: to build a company from a start-up to a global leader in the mining industry.
