R U OK? Looking out for our mates

14 September 2017

On R U OK? Day, Fortescue is encouraging all team members to join people across Australia to check in with their family, friends, workmates or anyone who may be struggling with life.

A simple conversation can help change lives.

On R U OK? Day, we are encouraging all our team members to join people across Australia to check in with their family, friends, workmates or anyone who may be struggling with life.

Just as we all have physical health, each of us also has mental health. With around 45 per cent of Australians expected to experience a mental health challenge in their lifetime, we are committed to raising awareness, dropping the stigmas, providing support and promoting a healthy mind and lifestyle for our workforce.

To that end, we have a number of internal resources available to the Fortescue family:

  • Fortescue Chaplaincy – our dedicated pastoral care service team who are available across all sites 24/7 for employees, contractors, and their families
  • Employee Assistance Program – providing 24/7 support coverage to our employees, contractors and their dependent families
  • Speak Up – a confidential hotline for team members to speak up when they witness or are experiencing activity that goes against our values.

As a business, we also recognise and support the important services of organisations such as Beyondblue and encourage our team members to utilise the services when faced with personal issues.

While R U OK? Day serves as a strong reminder to provide support to people around us, Fortescue’s values of family, safety and empowerment guide us each and every day to look out for our mates and have the courage to speak up.
