Meet Bree Wilkinson

Bree Wilkinson, Resource Definition Geologist at Eliwana, is passionate about encouraging people to be their authentic self, both in their personal lives and at work.

Bree began her Fortescue journey in 2019 as a contractor before becoming a permanent, full time team member in 2020.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Fortescue encourages, supports and celebrates diversity and inclusivity and I have made some wonderful friendships,” said Bree.

After years of struggling with gender dysphoria, Bree came out as her true self at Fortescue in 2021.

“Since childhood I tried to be the person everyone expected me to be. I struggled to fit in at school and experienced a lot of bullying. I became addicted to video games as a coping mechanism, stopped looking after myself and felt like I didn’t know who I was.

“I recognised my gender dysphoria and realised I had to transition, or it would continue to take a toll on my mental health. I was so tired of pretending, so in the end it was an easy decision for me.”

Bree’s is grateful for the support Fortescue has provided her.

“Fortescue genuinely cares about me. My leaders recognised my struggles, sought training and education for themselves, and enabled me to work flexibly and take leave while I worked on my mental health,” said Bree.

At Fortescue, we believe that encouraging diversity is not only the right thing to do. it’s also the smart thing to do. Being inclusive and bringing together people from different backgrounds, with varying perspectives and ideas promotes innovation, which leads to better business outcomes.

Bree says, “we all deserve basic rights and respect. Trans rights are human rights.”
