Fortescue donates hundreds of TVs to local community organisations

Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) has donated hundreds of televisions to community organisations in Port Hedland after undertaking a TV upgrade at its Cloudbreak mine accommodation facilities.

The company has 800 digital television sets available for Hedland-based community organisations on a first come first served basis, with Youth Involvement Council (YIC), Bloodwood Tree, Pilbara Community Legal Services (PCLS), and Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation each taking up the offer to distribute the TVs across their networks to improve the lives of the people they help.
Group Manager Government and Community, Alexa Morcombe, said Fortescue is proud to support the significant contribution of these community organisations through the company’s most recent donation.
“It’s great to see these TVs being provided to members of the local community who need a helping hand, and to receive feedback about the positive impact our donation is having on people’s lives; from helping people feel more at home in new or temporary accommodation, to providing a mental health boost for those experiencing challenging times,” she said.
Operations Manager at Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation, John Cross, acknowledged Fortescue for their generous donation which assisted many local families saying “we praise and thank Fortescue for their ongoing support and engagement with local communities in the Pilbara.”
Domestic Violence Outreach Worker for Pilbara Community Legal Service, Ellysha Melville, said the TVs were being distributed to clients of their Newman, Karratha, Roebourne and South Hedland homelessness and supported tenancy programs, experiencing financial hardship, or escaping circumstances of domestic violence.
“We appreciate that Fortescue recognises the importance of PCLS programs and supports us in our endeavour to assist and empower clients to manage their lives effectively,” she said.
