Fortescue donates lifesaving equipment to heart of community

Fortescue Metals Group (ASX: FMG; Fortescue) has donated an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the South Hedland Shopping Centre for the benefit of staff and patrons of the centre and the wider Port Hedland community.

The defibrillator has been installed at the South Hedland Pharmacy, where pharmacists are trained in the use of an AED and other staff are being trained by St John Ambulance Port Hedland branch. Charter Hall Security staff at the centre have also been trained.
Fortescue Coordinating General Manager Port and Rail Gerhard Veldsman said Fortescue is proud of its partnership with South Hedland Pharmacy, Charter Hall and St John Ambulance Port Hedland to provide lifesaving equipment in an important amenity within the town, and training to operate the AED.
“At Fortescue the safety, health and wellbeing of our people and the importance of being our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper is paramount, and we know the same is true across our close community,” Mr Veldsman said.
“This investment will empower people within the centre to possibly save another person’s life and we are grateful to South Hedland Pharmacy, Charter Hall and St John Ambulance for their support.”
South Hedland Pharmacy Managing Pharmacist Mark Lock said the pharmacy was pleased to accept Fortescue’s generous donation which will provide easy access to an AED for staff and patrons of the centre and people working close by.
“We all hope that our staff never need to use the defibrillator, but in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest in the centre or surrounding areas, this unit could save a life,” he said.
